Trust me, I desperately wanted to stay off the umbrella rig controversy, really I did. That is, until I saw Mark Zona’s “Awesome Fishing Show” last week. Not only does Zona deliver an eminently watchable program, he puts a little reverse topspin on it. Instead of doing an umbrella rig show and inviting some company honk to sing its praises, he wrangles a guy who unabashedly hates the thing, Jeff Kriet.

Had an hour to kill and drove up to Castaic Lake in the fog and trolled the 8" BBZ-1 a little until I got hammered by a monster striper. Was using the Lamiglas In-Shore 8'6" rod, Shimano 400b, Maxima 25 Ultra Green, Spro 8" BBZ-1 floater in Silver Fish Color.

Join me as I walk a local fisherman on Lake Lanier through the steps on basic swimbait fishing. When they first announced plans for Major League Fishing, I think my reaction was probably similar to that of many anglers. Really? Do we really need another tournament circuit, especially one with hand picked pros and features cobbled together from past made-for-television events? Haven’t we suffered enough?

Was able to hook up with a couple of my buddies and YouTube Super Stars Ed Bassmaster and Casey Lavere ( from Hushin with Lavere) at Castaic Lake today. Had a few hours to kill and trolled for a big striper with nothing and then went drop shotting for 1/2 hour before we had to leave the lake.
