Stan Kapluns "Keys To Success" on the 3/4 Days Boats Out Of San Diego .

Here's this weeks report from San Diego 9/23/15. I went out the on the Dolphin out of Fisherman's Landing the other day. They were running a half day extended trip to Mexican waters. We took a 2 1/2 hour- 3hr boat ride a little past the 425, about 40 miles out. This was a high risk high reward type of trip. We went out looking for paddies, hoping that they would hold fish. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find the big paddies we were looking for, but we were still able to find some fish on smaller paddies. Although there is no direct correlation, on this trip, small paddies equaled small fish. We made 3 stops and each time, it was a couple rat yellowtail and rat dorado under 5lbs. Last stop and last fish, I finally got the dorado I was looking for and it was a nice one. It was the biggest of the day, and weighed 17lb when I weighed at home before filleting it.
It was caught on a Shimano Curado 300e with 65lb PowerPro with a 25lb fluoro leader, on a Shimano Teramar. Don't give up while you are out there fishing, keeping a fresh bait with a lot of kick kept me in the game and make sure you match your hook size to the bait you are throwing. Oversize hooks will knock the kick out of your bait fast and that can make all the difference.  Check back soon for more reports!
