Stan Kaplun: Pick Up Your SPRO BBZ-1 Rat!

The topwater bite is still going off in San Diego. Or maybe it's just a rat bite. Even more so, it seems like it's just a BBZ-1 Rat bite. You'll see just why I say that in this report. I finally got back on the freshwater grind, which has been tough to focus on with how hot the inshore, offshore, and bay fishing has been.

With a couple hours to kill, my buddy Jorge and I hit the lake. He wanted to break in his new Teramar, paired with the Revo Toro NACL. I was throwing the White BBZ-1 Rat 50 and Jorge was throwing a 4oz Rago Rat. I was not on my game today. I've been working a lot and while I always have the desire to hit the water, I simply haven't had the energy, but I forced myself on this one. I hooked up on my first blow up, way out in open water, but he popped off shortly after. The next blow up I had was on a long cast into open water as well, but he smashed the rat less than 10 feet out from shore. I was able to land this nice 4.5lb. He had a crazy goldish brown color on his bear that makes me wonder if they are hanging out on the bottom in the sand/mud, yet he just couldn't resist the knock of the rat. My third blowup was way out in open water as well, and it was on a long pause. Unfortunately, I had a spider on my arm and I was trying to resolve the issue when he hit the rat. This was a quality model bass and I watched as I pulled the rat right out of his mouth.

What was even cooler about the fish I caught was that I had just switched rods with Jorge. I wanted to throw his set up a couple times to get a feel for the new Teramar. I made 5 casts with it and couldn't help but to grab my BBZ back and keep chucking away. The second cast I made in the same exact spot that I was throwing his Rago, I caught my fish.

He's witnessed all of the ridiculous action that BBZ-1 Rat gets. From the bass to the halibut and corvina, he has seen it all first hand. He was already a believer but if he needed any more convincing, this trip did just that. He will definitely be putting his time in with the rat so be on the lookout for a report from him soon! If you or anyone else want to catch big bass, pick up one of the BBZ-1 Rat's, put your time in on the water and you will be rewarded!
