"Work Smarter not Harder" Castaic Lake "WOOD" Clean Up Is Never Ending!
During a recent trip to one of my local lakes, Castaic Lake that is I noticed something floating around. How about a mile long of "lower end" killers, yes floating wood with some the size of trees. While launching my boat I see that the lifeguards are working hard to keep things cleaned up as the wood drifts into the main launch ramp. later that day I notice to big planes flying by, do you think they thought of "WORKING SMARTER, NOT HARDER" and paid them off to scoop up the wood with the planes? LOL, only if they could really work.
Pre-Fishing Otay Lake with Stan Kaplun and Greg LeRoy.
San Diego checking in with a Largemouth Bass report. I got out to Otay with my buddy Greg LeRoy the other day. He has a club tournament coming up this weekend so we were pre-fishing it, trying to find the fish, and see what they wanted to eat.
I Hate Castaic Lake! But The Darter Head Came Through For The Win.
George Kramer, you ain't got nothing on me! My partner Tim Tuttle (Tim miss today because of unforeseen obligations so I fished solo but he was there in spirit) and I fished our first NBW tournament today at dreaded Castaic Lake.........I hate that lake! truly one of the hardest likes in Cali and the winds, mud and debris did not make it any easier. The Shot @ George Kramer was because I had to go to a dang darter head with a RoboWorm hologram shad on 5# Maxima Ultragreen. George always said that when all else fails drag a splitshot or darter head. With bait suspended 5 to 30 feet I found a few walls and let the dart head fly. Most of the hits came on the slide in 15. Only 5 keepers today and with the 15in minimum it makes it hard for solid keepers.
Conditions Changed: Stan Kaplun Goes Deep, 300 Feet Hits The Mark For Rockfish and YT.
Here's a quick saltwater report from San Diego. I hit the water with my friend and fellow Cousins Tackle pro-staffer, Thomas Aranda. While there has been a solid yellowfin tuna bite this last week or so, the bait situation was less than ideal to say the least. To read what we did click on my photo.
TBT: One Year Ago Today: Happy Thanksgiving To Everyone.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and remember that fish celebrate this day as well. They just eat Big Baits instead of turkey.
Dude, Where's My Car?
Castaic Lake, it's been awhile. On a recent trip to one of my old stomping grounds that I have not been on for many months I have found a new lake and a few other things as well.
Way Back Wednesdays: Your Craziest Swimbait Catch? Mines a 12............Gauge
OK, Here is a cool Way Back Wednesday swimbait catch. Back in the day while shore fishing Castaic Lower Lake I was slow rolling a big boot tail swimbait across the bottom when I got my bait stuck.
Stan Kaplun Battles Two, To Finally Get One. Read His Story Now.
With an offshore/inshore season that will go down in the books as one of the greatest of all time, there are still fish locally to be caught. Although many are transitioning into rockfish and lobster mode, there are still pelagics that are active and are close to home. The yellowtail are still around and they are good sized models.
