It has been a very long time since I applied for a job, but seeing the power of the Internet and social media, I’m thinking that going public with an employment request shows real marketing savvy and chutzpah.

Nowadays, it seems that everyone wants a tournament shirt and a wrapped boat. For those who are actually receiving cold hard cash for their sponsorship efforts, good for them. If it’s a free pair of sunglasses or a handful of lures, not so good. You see these guys at every major event or sports show, swaggering through the crowds wearing sublimated fishing jerseys as if there is a tournament underway in the parking lot. If they’re not working the show, it devalues the entire concept.

Derrek Stewart from the BBZ.com had a great question about keeping fish in the live well and I took the time to show him one of my tricks for tournament fishing. Drink plenty of water during a day of fishing and place your bottle in the live wells for multiple reasons.

Spent a day at the lake with the Lake Elsinore Bass Club and the OIF-OEF Warrior Event and National Bass West. Almost 100 boats and over 160 Warriors enjoyed a great day on the water. It is my honor to be apart of this special day and to give back just a little of what they have given me.

Trust me, I desperately wanted to stay off the umbrella rig controversy, really I did. That is, until I saw Mark Zona’s “Awesome Fishing Show” last week. Not only does Zona deliver an eminently watchable program, he puts a little reverse topspin on it. Instead of doing an umbrella rig show and inviting some company honk to sing its praises, he wrangles a guy who unabashedly hates the thing, Jeff Kriet.
