ONE CAST AWAY | Plummer's Arctic Circle Lodge 2026

This is what a bucket-list fishing trip looks like when Mother Nature decides to test your soul.

We arrived at Plummer's Arctic Circle Lodge on Great Bear Lake right at ice-out expecting the usual post-winter paradise. What we got was one of the most intense seasons in recent memory — bluebird skies one minute, a massive wildfire choking the lake and burning close to the Circle Outpost the next. Smoke in our lungs. Ash on the decks. Mosquitoes that could carry off a small dog. And some of the most incredible lake trout fishing on planet Earth.

THE GRIND: My fishing partner Rob and I didn't wait for the fish to come to us. We made two-hour runs in both directions from the Circle Outpost, searching new water, new structure, new places where the giants hold up. We worked that warm post-ice-out water like doctors with precision scalpels — T-60 Flatfish, Billy Jigs, and the brand-new FishLab 8" Pro Hydra Glide prototype proving that these Arctic monsters want a bigger meal.

THE RESULTS: Our group absolutely crushed it. Kenny — one of the OGs — tied on a Billy Jig and stuck a beautiful 48-pounder. Shaun battled a 36-pound tank to the net. And we lost count of the 15 to 25-pound class fish that came over the rail.

THE DREAM: But here's the thing about Great Bear — it isn't just about the fish you catch. It's about the 50-pound dream maker that haunts your sleep. The one you see in the photos on the lodge wall. The one that keeps you throwing even when your arms are noodles and the smoke is burning your eyes.

I packed this video with photos of other anglers who've made that 50+ pound connection at Plummer's — because that giant is out there. For every single one of us. Always just one cast away.

SPECIAL THANKS: To the entire crew at Plummer's Arctic Lodges for another unforgettable season. If you've ever sat at home thinking, "I need to do this once in my life," — stop thinking. The midnight sun is calling. The giants are waiting. And you are one cast away.
